Funky, Eccentric and Vibrant
Fitzroy has a great mix of eccentric, artistic, alternative and trendy elements, making it one of Melbourne's most interesting suburbs. As it is considered one of the most vibrant and extremely lively precincts it's really worth taking the time to visit.
Brunswick Street, Fitzroy's grand grunge boulevard, extends from Victoria Parade from the City's end to Brunswick Street Oval that was once home to the defunct VFL club Fitzroy, now known as Brisbane Lions.
Brunswick Street has made such an impression that the National Trust has listed it as one of Melbourne's important icons. The street offers a vast collection of quirky shops and fantastic colourful street signage, cafe's, restaurants and bars ranging from authentic Afghan, Greek and Turkish - just to mention a few.
Take a walk along Johnson St and you feel the Spanish influence of Tapas and Sangria. You will find a selection of some of the best Spanish and Latin American Clubs where you can enjoy street performers, dance clubs, jazz bars and live-band pubs, making it feel like Carnivale year round.
